Classical Day – March 20th, 2018

Map - CHS

Classical High School was established on March 20th in 1843, making it 175 years old in 2018! At 175, Classical is the 6th oldest public high school in New England and the 49th oldest public high school in the United States. As part of our celebration of Classical’s perseverance through nearly two centuries of history, we declared March 20th as Classical Day!

Classical Day has been officially proclaimed by the Governor of RI, the Mayor of Providence, and the City Council. As part of the celebration, community members, elected officials, CHS staff, students, teachers, alumni, and the CHSAA team gathered at the School library for an unveiling of donors throughout the years and proclamations of Classical Day by Governor Raimondo, Mayor Elorza, and Councilman Samuel Zurier. After the event at the School, the celebration continued at the RI State House for a public announcement of Classical Day. The State House was lit in purple that night. Take a look at some photos and video footage of the day’s events!
