The Alumni Association allowed me to introduce many students from different backgrounds to the ballet. We all know that urban schools do not receive enough artistic education.

At Classical, this does not happen.

— Ana Mendiburu, Spanish & French Teacher

CHS Band

The Alumni Association has funded the music program, provided performance opportunities, provided Classical t-shirts for the band, found instrument donors, and promoted/publicized our performances.

Without the Alumni Association I wouldn’t have the band I have today

— Emerson Brown ‘00, Music Director

Trip to Quebec

The support of the Alumni Association has been instrumental in helping our students gain more linguistic and cultural opportunities outside the classroom.

Last year’s grant (2017) greatly helped twenty (20) of our students to fund a truly unforgettable school trip to the province of Québec

— Michael Hebert, French Teacher

Thank you for your continued support of the Classical High School Alumni Association. Our goal is to enhance the educational experience of current students at the school along with preserving and supporting the tradition of academic excellence of Classical. We are proud to announce that Classical High School has been named a Blue Ribbon School by the US Department of Education, the only high school in Rhode Island to ever receive this distinction. The school was also honored recently as being a “commended” high performing school by the RI Department of Education.

This is wonderful news and confirms the hard work of the school administration led by Principal Scott Barr, the faculty and students. We are excited to share this type of information with you.Your support provides faculty and students with opportunities not included in the budget from the city. Last year alone, we allocated nearly $20,000 in grants to further enrich the student experience beyond the classroom such as a visit to Quebec for the French Club, bolstering the music program, and a trip to the ballet.

Classical High School, now more than ever, truly represents the city of Providence. The Classical student body is now 76% ethnically diverse, 68% of the students live at or below the poverty level, and 54% are female. The students are achieving greatness against all socio-economic odds. As a testament to the resiliency, and strength of focus of our talented students, the Class of 2017 received more than $18 million dollars in scholarships and grants to the top colleges and universities in the nation. We have much to do to ensure continued support of our mission but we are well on our way. You’ve helped us accomplish so much. The Alumni Association is now working on other initiatives including the establishment of an Endowment, which will secure permanent financial support of the students.

Please consider a donation to the Keeping Classical Strong Annual Fund which helps to fill the gap between the city budget and the actual needs of the students. The Alumni Association is forging a path of private funding for a public school. It is a challenging road but we know that Classical pride runs deep and Purple and is strong. Together we can make a difference in the lives of the students of Classical today.

Thank you.

What is the Keeping Classical Strong Annual Fund?

The Keeping Classical Strong Annual Fund consists of contributions of an unrestricted nature given by alumni, parents, and friends. The need for unrestricted giving is critical as it allows the Alumni Association flexibility in responding to immediate or unexpected needs at the school and it keeps the organization running.

How can I help the Association meet its goals?

The Alumni Association hopes that all alumni, parents, and friends will realize the urgent need for outside funds and will support the Keeping Classical Strong Annual Fund. Without your generosity, the Association cannot respond to the immediate or unexpected needs of the school as determined by the Principal. We ask you to give what you can and to consider a recurring monthly donation. Contact Donna Criscuolo, Executive Director to find out more about Ways to Give.

Is my gift tax deductible?

Yes! Classical High School Alumni Association is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit corporation. All gifts to the Association are deductible for federal income, gift and estate tax purposes under the applicable sections of the Internal Revenue Code.
